Digitisation Explained

Educational videos on  digital disruption & the subscription economy

by Clive Angel

I am sharing my educational videos on digital disruption on my Tube video channel to inspire. As a result, of my work experiences and learnings. By sharing my ideas and insights. Henceforth, I hope to play a contributory role to guide small business owners and entrepreneurs on their journey. My intention above all is to provide insights. Consequently,  they can execute successfully on their own business strategies and growth aspirations.

It is my belief that digital platforms will give rise to networked communities. The resulting network effects between users will disrupt supply chain economics and change customer behaviour. The platform economy will create opportunities for all users to share their feedback. Therefore, empowering customers and employees with a voice. Moreover, this feedback will result in streamlined business processes and cost efficiencies. Accordingly, benefitting all parties.

Subscription business models, (read here for My-insights-on-the-subscription-economy) provide customers with real-time access to and the use of products and services as required. Consequently, not having to incur the upfront capital and ongoing maintenance costs associated with ownership. In parallel, suppliers benefit from predictable and measurable annuity based income streams.

One of my favourite quotes on the subject. To demonstrate, the trade-off between subscribing for services and owning assets is “The economics of subscription outweigh the egocentricity of ownership”. In particular, it depicts the trade-off between the “usage and convenience” we enjoy from services and the “materialistic pleasure” we derive from owning assets.

With the interdependencies as a result of digitisation and the networked economy. It is no doubt, an exciting time to be a business owner, an employee and a customer. Consequently, the interests of all three user groups will become more aligned.
